“Don't feel guilty for doing your job as a Mum”

Yes, being a mother is tough, and leaving your kids can trigger guilt. But in that moment when you're about to exercise, don't let guilt hold you back. Put your shoes on and go train and celebrate the fact that you're taking time for yourself and setting a powerful example for your children.

Being a Mama you are the foundation for your whanau.  Remember, self-care isn't selfish - it's necessary. By prioritising your health and well-being, you're not only improving your own life but also showing your children the importance of self-care and personal growth. Your dedication to fitness demonstrates resilience, discipline, and the value of pursuing personal goals.

Moreover, the energy and positivity you gain from your workouts will undoubtedly spill over into the rest of your life. You'll return home refreshed, more patient, and better equipped to handle the challenges of being a Mama.  So, the next time guilt creeps in, remind yourself that by taking care of yourself, you're ultimately taking better care of your whanau.

I was lucky enough to have a great role model who looked after herself and continues to do so. I remember growing up and seeing my Mum leave for the gym, my little brother crying for her as she walked out. I don't ever remember her coming back to check if he was ok, at the time I didn't really think much about it. But now as a Mother I realise what this taught me is that she was looking after herself. To look after anyone else you must be healthy, strong and really take care of yourself.

Embrace your role as both a mother and an individual with personal needs and aspirations. Your children will grow up seeing a strong, balanced woman who values her own health and happiness - and that's a priceless lesson they'll carry with them throughout their lives.

This journey of balancing motherhood and personal wellness is not just about physical health; it's about mental and emotional well-being too. When you prioritize your fitness, you're also managing stress, boosting your mood, and increasing your overall energy levels. These benefits ripple through every aspect of your life, including your relationships with your children and partner.

Consider the long-term impact of your actions. By maintaining your health and fitness routine, you're potentially adding years to your life and improving the quality of those years. This means more time with your children, more energy to engage in their lives, and the ability to be an active, involved parent well into their adulthood.

Your commitment to fitness can become a family affair. Involve your children in your activities when possible. Go for family walks, have dance parties in the living room, or let them join you for some simple exercises. This not only helps alleviate guilt but also instills healthy habits in your children from an early age.

Remember, every time you choose to exercise, you're making a powerful statement: that you value yourself, that you're worthy of time and care, and that you're committed to being the best version of yourself. This self-respect and self-love will shine through in all your interactions, especially with your children.

So, the next time you feel that pang of guilt, reframe it. See your workout not as time away from your children, but as an investment in your family's future. You're cultivating a healthier, happier, more energetic mother who will be there for her children in countless ways for years to come. Embrace this time, celebrate your strength, and know that you're setting an incredible example for your children about the importance of self-care and personal growth.
